ROCK ISLAND – Broadway Historic District’s Spring Clean Up will be Saturday, May 20, 2016. Participants should meet at 908 20th St., Rock Island, in the alley at 8:30 a.m.

Broadway hosts cleanups twice a year to help reduce litter in the historic neighborhood which borders downtown Rock Island and to bring residents together.

“Additionally, the cleanup helps to protect the Mississippi River from trash that eventually makes it into our watershed and pollutes our drinking water,” said Tyler Pannell, Broadway Beautification Committee co-chair.

Groups and organizations are welcome to join Broadway residents, and should contact Pannell at (309) 235-6545 or tylerpannell@gmail.com. Jody Zwiefel is the other committee co-chair.

QC Coffee and Pancake House and neighbors are donating refreshments. All supplies for the litter pick up will be provided by Keep Rock Island Beautiful.

The Broadway Historic District is a collection of historic homes between 5th and 13th Avenues and 17th and 23rd Streets in Rock Island.

Founded as a neighborhood association in 1988, Broadway gained National Register of Historic Places status in 1998 and celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013.

Broadway Historic District is committed to preserving Broadway’s architectural integrity, strengthening its sense of community, celebrating the neighborhood’s history, and embracing the future.
