CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (July 26, 2019) The Cedar Rapids, Iowa Branch of the NAACP will host their 77th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at the IBEW/Miller Hall, 1211 Wiley Blvd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. The banquet will begin with a reception at 5:30PM, followed by dinner and awards, 6-8PM. The theme for this year’s banquet is "WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN", consistent with the NAACP’s mission to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
The keynote speaker is Leah Y Latimer, award-winning international journalist, author, and activist. Among her prestigious works is the dramatization of her work “Sixteen Sticks in a Bundle” on CBS Radio’s “Cavalcade of America.” JaMaya Austin will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.
