ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (May 6, 2024) — River Action will turn out the Centennial Bridge lights at 11PM, on the nights of May 6, 7, and 8 in order to protect birds migrating nocturnally as they pass through the Quad City region. This operation will be conducted by Art-o-Lite/Crawford Company.

Also, River Action suggests that residents in the flyway turn off all non-essential lighting 11PM-6AM. Bright lights attract and disorient nocturnally-migrating birds, potentially causing fatal collisions with buildings or exposure to additional day time hazards.

It is estimated that as many as 28,000 birds will migrate on Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7.  The estimate is 16,000-28,000 birds on May 8.
