Performance to Feature the Alto TromboneFirst Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Ave., Moline, will host a Chamber Music Recital on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 4 p.m. Musicians performing on the program are Jon Wederquist, alto trombone: Emily Shenk, soprano; Rebecca Pracht, mezzo soprano; and Stephen Steely, organ and piano. The performance is part of the "Sundays at Four" concert series. Admission is free. The alto trombone is smaller and pitched higher than the more recognized tenor and bass trombones. It is primarily used in choral, orchestral and operatic settings, although it has enjoyed a history as a solo instrument, primarily in 18th century Vienna. Modern composers have rediscovered the instrument and the alto trombone has begun making more appearances in modern compositions. This performance will include music from the Baroque and Classical eras.
