Congresswoman Bustos to hold Economic Roundtable and Tour Thomson Prison with Senator Durbin before holding a “Cheri on Shift” and meeting with Farm Bureau members

This is first of three “Better Deal for the Heartland” Economic Roundtable Discussions Bustos will host this week

Tomorrow at 10:00 AM in Moline, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) will host the first of three “Better Deal for the Heartland” economic roundtable discussions in the 17th Congressional District with special guest, Senator Dick Durbin. At this event, Congresswoman Bustos and Senator Durbin will hear from Quad-City business and education leaders about the challenges facing them as they work to succeed and create good-paying jobs in our region. The ideas generated at this economic roundtable and additional roundtables scheduled for Rockford and Peoria later this week will help contribute to the development of an economic summit Congresswoman Bustos plans to host in the near future.

Then at 2:00 pm in Thomson, Congresswoman Bustos and Senator Durbin will hold a media availability outside of Thomson Prison following a tour of the facility and meeting with officials from the federal Bureau of Prisons. Because of security regulations, media will not be permitted into Thomson prison, however press is encouraged to ask about progress being made at the facility during the media availability.

Later at 4:00 pm in Galesburg, Congresswoman Bustos will participate in a “Cheri on Shift” job shadowing event at Galesburg Castings. At this event, Congresswoman Bustos’ 49th “Cheri on Shift,” Cheri will learn how to pour molten iron. Galesburg Castings is an independently owned foundry operation that does ductile & gray iron castings as well as machining.

Finally at 6:00 pm in Peoria, Congresswoman Bustos will attend the Peoria County Farm Bureau’s Grassroots picnic. The Peoria County Farm Bureau represents about 1,600 farmer members and, as a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Bustos is spending part of her “Better Deal for the Heartland” tour speaking with local farmers about what they want to see in the next Farm Bill.
