DAVENPORT, IOWA (July 14, 2026) — At approximately 4:57PM on July 13, 2026, the Davenport Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 1800 block of West 8th Street.

While firefighters were en route, dispatch received additional information that smoke was coming from the upper level of the home.

The first fire crews arrived on scene at 5PM and entered the home to investigate.

Firefighters encountered heavy heat and smoke on the second floor and quickly began attacking the fire.

As crews worked to extinguish the flames, they discovered the fire had spread into the walls and ceiling.

Firefighters spent additional time opening those areas to ensure all hidden fire was extinguished and to prevent it from rekindling.

Crews remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hotspots and investigating the cause of the fire.

All residents safely evacuated the home before firefighters arrived, and everyone was accounted for.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The Davenport Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Medic EMS of Scott County, which provided emergency medical standby services.

MidAmerican Energy responded to safely secure utility services to the home, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced home-owner.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Fire Marshal’s office at 563-326-7906.
