CLIVE, IOWA (November 18, 2025) — A Davenport man who won a $100,000 Powerball® prize said the feeling was hard to describe.
“Its surreal,” Larry McFarland Jr said on Monday as he claimed his prize at the lottery’s Cedar Rapids regional office.”
It’s still surreal right no, it’s still unbelievable. A lot of things are going to get cleaned up for me and I’ll be able to catch up on some stuff.”
McFarland’s ticket matched four of five white balls and the Powerball in the November 12 drawing, and was one number away from winning that night’s $515.7 million jackpot. His initial $50,000 prize was doubled because he added the $1 Power Play® option to his ticket, which multiplies non-jackpot prize amounts by up to ten times.
McFarland, 52, bought his winning ticket at Moti’s Food, 1717 W. Third St. in Davenport, and returned after the drawing when the owner told him about a big prize and urged him to check his tickets.
“I was thinking, ‘Well, it’s probably not me,’” McFarland said. “Sure enough, I went right home and checked it, and it was me.”
The winning numbers in the November 12 drawing were 29-39-43-51-65 and Powerball 23. The Power Play number was two. No one won the jackpot that night, which now stands at an estimated $593 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
McFarland said he intends to save the bulk of his winnings, pay off his car, and show his gratitude by repaying a few people who have helped him over the years.
Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world’s biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today, Powerball is played by 48 lotteries across the country with drawings at 9:59PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
