Davenport may soon have to certify to the federal government that it is not a sanctuary city to continue to qualify for federal funding. If a majority vote of the city Council certifies Davenport is not a sanctuary city and later a federal investigation legally finds Davenport is a sanctuary city because its police force does not actively detain, arrest, impound the cars, and turn over to the County Sheriff unlicensed, uninsured drivers for an ICE deportation hearing. Could that Council majority be removed from office and relocated to a federal prison for falsifying a federal document? If Davenport, in fact, does lose all of its federal funding how would this effect the FY 2017 budget. Food stamps, welfare, low income housing, section 8, infrastructure repairs, our school system funding, transit funding, CDBG funding just to name a few. Then is Scott County a sanctuary County? Is Iowa a sanctuary State? In the end what will all of this cost the poor taxpayer, and what will the voters do this November?
