Dawson homers, drives in three in 8-5 loss

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Ronnie Dawson had an RBI single and a two-run home run, but the Bandits fell 9-5 to the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park. Chiefs’ right-hander Jordan Hicks picked up the win, tossing 6.1 innings.

 The River Bandits (10-9) surrendered four 2nd inning runs and trailed the entire day. Dylan Carlson walked with the bases loaded to get the Chiefs (8-10) on the board. J.R. Davis followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0, then Andy Young ripped an RBI single to cap the four run 2nd. In the bottom of the inning, Quad Cities got a run back on an RBI single by Dawson. The next runs also came off the bat of Dawson in the bottom of the fifth when he cranked a two-run homer to cut it to a 4-3 Chiefs lead. Peoria responded in the top of the fifth with a Ryan McCarvel two-run bomb. The Chiefs scored again in the sixth when Andy Young ripped a triple to score Carlson from first. Peoria grabbed another run in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-3 before the Bandits grabbed two back in the bottom of the frame. Peoria sealed the win with a ninth inning RBI single from Matt Davis.

Dustin Hunt took the loss for the Bandits. Hunt (0-3) was pulled after 1.1 innings and was tagged with four earned runs, three hits and three walks. Edgardo Sandoval, Reggie Johnson and Lucas Williams finished the game out of the pen for the Bandits. Hicks (3-0) was pulled with one out in the seventh and allowed five runs, four earned and struck out six.

The River Bandits close out the homestand tomorrow, April 26th, at 6:35 p.m. RHP Carson LaRue (1-0, 1.20) goes to the mound for Quad Cities. LaRue takes on Chiefs starter RHP Ronnie Williams (1-0, 6.94).
