DAVENPORT, IOWA (June  7th, 2017) – Since 1993, Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities has sheltered over 430 individuals through decent and affordable housing.  On Saturday, June 10th at 10:00 AM, six more people will be moving into their new Habitat Home. Jerry and Michelle Anguiano and their children Elida, Ariana, Gerando, and Michelle’s mother Patricia are excited to be moving into their new home. Together they have put in almost 600 sweat equity hours in working towards this special day.   The public is cordially invited to attend the dedication ceremony for house #102 located at 1004 24th Avenue -  in Rock Island, IL.

A groundbreaking for house #107, also open to the public, will be held at 11:00 AM at 901 Farnum Street in Davenport.  Ciza Meckson and Furaha Veronique will be breaking ground on their new home with their two children.  Ciza and Furaha have already logged more than 400 hours of sweat equity before they have even begun building their own home.

These families were selected into the Habitat program and have been earning sweat equity hours by working on Habitat homes, helping in the ReStore, assisting with snow removal, helping at Habitat events, and completing home ownership classes.

The new home owners and future homeowners will be responsible for paying a zero-interest loan to Habitat for the purchase of this home upon its completion.  Habitat homes in the Quad Cities are currently sold to families for $80,000 to $85,000, depending on the number of bedrooms.  The mortgage they pay will help fund future Habitat homes.

“Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities is hard at work eliminating poverty housing and improving the lives of hard working, low income families,” said Elesha Gayman, director of development for Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities. She added, “In addition to the benefit for the family, the community realizes substantial benefits from Habitat homes. The homes can be a catalyst for neighbors to clean up and beautify existing properties, creating more of a community environment in which families take pride.  Affordable housing also gives families more available income to contribute to the growth of the local economy. ”

More than $100,000 must be raised for each house Habitat builds in the Quad Cities.  Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities would like to thank John Deere, Wells Fargo Bank, Scott County Housing Council, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and Russell Construction for sponsoring houses #102 and #107.
