
International Award winning pianist, Dr. Kevin Ayesh, N.C., will give a Sunday Matinee performance at Elkader Opera House on January 28, 2 p.m. Ayesh is head of the Music Department at Blue Ridge Community College, Flat Rock, N.C. Ayesh is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards including the Naftzger Piano Award and Composer's Prize at the Fourth New Orleans International Piano Competition. Noted for his brilliance Ayesh will perform Chopin's technically difficult and expressively powerful Black Key Etude; One of Faure's harmonic and melodic, aesthetic works; A lyrical intermezzo by Brahms, one of the finest character pieces of the 1800s; Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue combining elements of classical music with jazz influenced effects; The much analyzed Beethoven's Sonata in C Minor, a somber love song and arguably a funeral hymn; And a sacred work, Cantata No.147, one of Bach's better-known cantatas, Jesu, the Joy of Man's Desiring, based on verses from the Holy Gospel.
