IOWA CITY, IOWA (August 11, 2022) — Music and art collide when the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art celebrates the opening of its new building and inaugural exhibition, Homecoming, on August 26-28.
Musical performances by treesreach, Pictoria Vark, and Houndmouth kick off the opening night celebration beginning Friday, August 26, 6PM (CT), at Gibson Square Park.
Day Two of the three-day celebration features an indoor-outdoor entertainment lineup. The Cedar Rapids Orchestra will perform in the museum’s performance lobby beginning Saturday, August 27, 5PM, and at 6PM, the party continues outside with DJ Simeon Talley delivering a special performance until 9PM.
Free popcorn, lemonade and water will be available in Gibson Square Park on Friday and Saturday, 5-9PM. Throughout the evening, food trucks will be parked on the street between the Stanley and the Main Library with food for purchase.
The weekend celebration begins Friday at 3PM with opening remarks from UI President Barbara Wilson and Stanley Museum of Art Director Lauren Lessing.
Visitors can explore the galleries and enjoy curatorial introductions to Homecoming following Friday’s opening ceremonies. Homecoming tours continue Saturday and Sunday, 2-4PM.
The UI Stanley Museum is open to everyone. Seating is limited for the weekend events. Members of the public are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair.
