Attendees Who Have Not Missed A Single Day in 40 Years To Be Honored JOHNSTON, IOWA (June 26,2017) - Stockman's Inn, in conjunction with the Iowa State Fair, will hold a ceremony on Sunday, August 20, 2017 beginning at 11:30 am to acknowledge and recognize those persons who have attended the Iowa State Fair every day for the last forty (40) years or more. Stockman's Inn will be serving a free lunch to each honoree in attendance and a certificate of recognition will be given by the Iowa State Fair and Stockman's Inn to each individual during the ceremony. To be acknowledged a person must be present at the ceremony and have entered the gates of the actual fairgrounds - not to include the campgrounds - every single day that the Iowa State Fair was taking place over the last forty years. It must also be a current streak of attendance. Lyle Kreps, owner of Stockman's Inn for the last 45 years said, "One day I began to think about how long it had been since I had missed a day of the Iowa State Fair and wondered how many other people there might also be who have been coming to the fair as long as I had". Kreps began planning a way to recognize and acknowledge their loyalty to the fair and decided that at the very least Stockman's Inn could provide them a sandwich, side and a drink at no cost. Representatives of the Iowa State Fair will also be on hand to acknowledge and thank those who have been attending the fair for at least forty years without missing a day. Iowa State Fair Manager, Gary Slater said, "The Iowa State Fair is about tradition and history. Attending for 40 years or 440 days of the Iowa State Fair should be honored and recognized. We applaud them and thank them for their loyalty and for helping create the best state fair." Check-In will begin at 11:30 am on Sunday, August 20. The ceremony will begin at noon, followed by lunch at approximately 12:30 pm. 2016 marked the first year that the recognition ceremony was held. It is hoped that the event, held on the final Sunday of the Iowa State Fair, will become an annual tradition. - 30 -
