MOLINE, ILLINOIS (November 10, 2021) — People living in our neighborhood are calling on the Moline Park Board to put children’s safety first.

In mid-October, parks and recreation crews removed the fence surrounding Kartstens Park, located at the corner of 6th Street and 22nd Avenue. This puts the children visiting and playing at this playground at risk. The fence provided security to keep small children from running off and chasing toys into the busy street. Karstens Park is located in a high-traffic area with more than 25,000 cars passing by per week. It’s the only Moline park to have traffic on all four sides, adding to the risk. Busses also drive by every day to the nearby bus stop.

Many citizens have petitioned to have the fence replaced. However, the community’s concerns have not been addressed as the Moline Park Board prefers open parks without safety fences. Hold the Moline Park Board accountable for the well-being of our children and bring back the safety fence.
