Sundays with Miss Jean

Sundays with Miss Jean, is Sunday, April 28, 2-5PM. She is here on the second and fourth Sunday afternoons of each month, and you can join her for juggling, chess, and logic-puzzles. She teaches beginning-chess to all, from pre-schoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill-level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, Sweeney has on hand three large cases of logic-puzzles, construction-materials, and hands-on brain-teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.

WOW Wednesday

Wednesday, May 1, 2-5PM, is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by US Bank Foundation. Stop by the big, red "Please Touch Table" for a May flowers craft. Create something new and beautiful from an everyday item.

WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school-break, early-out, and home-schoolers. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required — it is an enrichment program with no extra class-fee.

Miss Jean is also here every WOW Wednesday.

Funtime Friday

Friday, May 3, at 10AM, is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Enjoy some literacy and then put your hands in the ground. You’ll be helping the Discovery Center plant flowers in the raised-bed and the planter-pots in front of the building.

As always, there will be a snack to go along. This popular program is designed for pre-schoolers and their grown-ups, although all-age children are welcome anytime, especially during school-breaks.

Great Give Day

Mark your calendar for Great Give Day, on Thursday, May 9. This on-line day of giving is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque in cooperation with Clinton’s own local foundation River Bluff Community Foundation. Supporters are encouraged to help the Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center grow their endowment fund. The museum’s endowment fund will support a strong children's museum, long into the future. Donors can pledge as little as $10, and gifts of $50 or more are eligible for the Endow Iowa Tax Credit. Giving is easy and all information can be found online at GreatGiveDay.org.

Those wishing to make a charitable donation to the Discovery Center’s endowment fund may do so now, with early-bird online-scheduling. In fact, your gift to the Felix Alder Children’s Discovery Center Endowment Fund can grow — it will be matched dollar-to-dollar and doubled. This is thanks to $10,000, given by a local anonymous donor, who wants their money used to match donations to local-endowment funds. These matching funds are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please make your donation early before matching-funds are gone.

An endowment fund is important because it is a resource for the future that will support the Discovery Center’s mission that Clinton area families have a place to learn together through play for many years to come.

Please go to the Great Give Day website and pledge your support of “Clinton, Iowa’s Children’s Museum.”
