Quad Cities, January 24, 2018: Six Quad Cities non-profit organizations just got a boost in their fight against hunger. Christian Family Care Center and Rock Island Rescue Mission, Churches United food pantries, the Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program (Iowa State Extension office), Meal Service of Scott County, Humility of Mary Housing and Shelter, and Kids’ Backpack proram through Riverbend Food Bank are the local agencies receiving funds from the Quad Cities CROP Hunger Walk.   Over $10,000 will be distributed to these agencies.

Numerous teams representing religious organizations, area nonprofits, schools, and business sponsors came together to raise over $40,000 in 2017.  Quad Cities has the largest walk in Iowa measured by the amount of money raised. But Quad Cities is the nation’s only bi-state walk, including both Iowa and Illinois.

On Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Islamic Center, 2115 Kimberly Road, Bettendorf, the community will recognize over a dozen teams that each raised more than $1,000 for the CROP Hunger Walk, hear mission moments from both local agency leadership and CWS representative, and recognize all groups and business that participated in the walk.

CROP Hunger Walk: A National Movement

Crop Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service, an organization fighting hunger since the end of World War II.  Participants include members of religious organizations, businesses, schools and others to raise funds to end hunger in the United States and around the world. Twenty-five percent of the money raised during the local walk stays in the community to combat hunger. In 2017, 906 CROP Hunger Walks were held nationwide. This year’s participants raised about $9,100,000, roughly a quarter of which supported 1,572 food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and more in the U.S (https://cwsannualreport.org/north-america/crop-hunger-walk/ ).

The 47th Annual Quad Cities CROP Hunger Walk will take place on October 7, 2018. Learn more by visiting www.facebook.com/qccropwalk
