BETTENDORF, Iowa – I am strong. I am brave. I am a survivor.
Stand with survivors on Friday, Oct. 13, at Family Resources’ Rising Up Against Sexual Abuse luncheon and join the fight against sexual abuse in our communities. The luncheon will be held at the Quad Cities Waterfront Convention Center. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the program beginning at noon.
Family Resources offers free and confidential care to thousands of women, men and children each year in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. In 2016, our SafePath Survivor Resources program helped more than 10,000 individuals and their families. We know that a survivor’s story is about so much more than their abuse. At this year’s luncheon, hear how two area survivors have chosen to Rise Up and take back their lives.
Raised in the Quad Cities, Jalea Jackson will speak about the ways that abuse affects the dynamics of families and how filmmaking has given her a voice after her abuse to ask the tough questions. Jalea’s short film “Things with Feathers,” which she has worked on since she moved to Baton Rouge, is scheduled to release this winter.
The Rising Up luncheon will feature a raffle, lunch, and program. UnityPoint Health -Trinity is generously the exclusive matching sponsor of this luncheon. Tickets are $35 per person or $280 per table until Oct. 1 when tickets will go up to $40 per person or $320 per table. Tickets may be purchased at www.famres.org/calendar or by calling 563-468-2140.
