Following the GOP's proposed $52 million in mid-year cuts, half of which are cuts to education - Iowa's regent schools, community colleges, and the Department of Education - totaling a whopping $26.1 million, to balance Governor Kim Reynolds' fiscal mismanagement, Fred Hubbell released the following statement:

"Kim Reynolds’ fiscal mismanagement must end," said Fred Hubbell. "These proposed cuts are unacceptable, unconscionable, and would be completely unnecessary if Governor Reynolds didn't mismanage Iowa's budget into the red. As Reynolds continues to prioritize wasteful corporate giveaways, her party proposes slashing education by another $26 million, the largest of proposed cuts, that will lead to tuition hikes and limited resources for both our regents schools and community colleges. These cuts would be critically damaging to the future of our state. We need to be investing in education and job training to grow our skilled workforce, ensuring long-term, sustainable economic prosperity for our state. As governor, I am committed to putting people first again in Iowa, and restoring responsible fiscal management of our budget to get our state back on track."
