Friendship Manor’s recently-completed Emerald Wellness and Therapy Center, an important piece of the retirement community’s “Re-Establishing Friendship” renovation project

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (October 8, 2025) — After two years of hard work, Rock Island’s Friendship Manor Continuing Care Retirement Community will unveil the results of its $12.5 million “Re-Establishing Friendship” renovation project next week. This open-house event doubles as a culinary tour of the Manor’s award-winning cuisine, served in the fresh spaces designed to provide modern seniors with a healthy, enriching community. This event is free and open to the public.

Friendship Manor revealed the first half of the project, the extensively-renovated “Terraces at Friendship Manor” independent-living community at the end of May. Since then, construction crews wrapped up work on one of the crown jewels of the project, the Emerald Wellness and Therapy Center. Friendship Manor President and CEO Ted Pappas said providing residents with a thoroughly-modern, multi-use space for physical therapy, guided-fitness programs, and self-led exercise on quality equipment was a priority.

"Today’s seniors are embracing wellness as a way of life — prioritizing strength, independence, and purpose at every stage. Our new state-of-the-art Emerald Wellness and Therapy Center was designed and constructed with this in mind,” Pappas said.

“It’s a space where residents can work one-on-one with skilled physical and occupational therapists, or enjoy the freedom to pursue their own fitness goals in a modern, supportive environment. This is about empowering our community to live well, now and into the future."

Friendship Manor’s “Re-Establishing Friendship” open-house event begins in the Emerald Wellness and Therapy Center, where complimentary smoothies will be served. From there, attendees will head down “Main Street” to the refreshed and expanded Bistro 1209 dining facility for drinks and appetizers. The tour proceeds with a look at the modernized independent living apartments at “The Terraces,” and ends with dessert and live music at the Manor’s new, mid-century modern-inspired “Lounge ‘42” and adjacent Sapphire Dining Room.

The Re-Establishing Friendship Open House runs 2-4PM, Thursday, October 16, at the Friendship Manor campus, at 1209 21st Ave, Rock Island, Illinois. It includes a tour of the renovation and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages. There will be a ribbon-cutting at 3PM. RSVPs are appreciated — call (309) 794-4123 or e-mail Heather.Stancliff@friendshipmanor.org.
