BURLINGTON, IOWA (June 1, 2019) — Luis Garcia and Brett Daniels combined to strike out 16 batters and allow just two hits as the Quad Cities River Bandits blanked the Burlington Bees 1-0 on Saturday night at Community Field. The shut-out was the ninth of the year for the Bandits.

Garcia, who started the game for the River Bandits, was brilliant on the mound in tossing 6.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit and walked three while recording ten strikeouts to match his career-high. Only one runner made it as far as second base against him.

The River Bandits (35-17) scored the only run of the game just in time for Garcia to earn the victory. Burlington starter Luis Alvarado, who also allowed just one hit, lost control with one out in the sixth. He hit Austin Dennis and Jeremy Pena in back-to-back at-bats before he was removed from the game. Tyler Smith entered and in-decked a bouncer up the middle off the bat of Freudis Nova. Second-baseman Kyle Arias gloved the ball, stepped on second, and made a spinning-throw to first that bounced away into foul territory. Dennis raced around third to score and the Bandits took the lead.

Brett Daniels took over in relief and worked the final 3.0 innings to earn his first save of the season. The right-hander allowed a base-runner in every frame, but only one hit. Burlington (30-25) put the tying-run on second base in the ninth with no outs before Daniels struck out the next three hitters to end the game. He finished with six strikeouts.

Pena tallied one of the four hits the River Bandits mustered, pushing his hitting streak to 14 games as a result. Dennis also extended his hitting streak to seven games with a double in the eighth inning.

The River Bandits and Bees meet for the final time in the first half on Sunday afternoon at 2PM. The River Bandits will hand the ball to RHP Austin Hansen (4-1, 1.01). Burlington turns to RHP Jose Soriano (3-5, 3.09).
