DAVENPORT, IOWA (November 28, 2023) — Small-business owners reflect the communities they come from — having been founded by local entrepreneurs and maintained by local employees, small businesses are a portrait of the local area. They provide job opportunities in their communities, which promotes economic self-sufficiency and helps to reduce poverty. They also invest in the communities they serve and help keep a lively and vibrant neighborhood.
Like MSA member Masani, owner of Source of Knowledge bookstore in Newark, New Jersey, more than a bookstore, they play a key role in the community by centering on Black art, literature, and culture. Source of Knowledge has created a Black community center and offers a personal touch and curation that only an independent bookstore can offer. But competing against Amazon and big-box bookstores has been difficult.
Your support helps MSA support leaders like Masani as they work to deliver innovation and growth within the community and fill an essential gap that Amazon cannot. We support small-business owners in engaging in public policy conversations and creating local strategies that bring people together to advance issues that support a more equitable economy, build public investments, and support the character of a local area.
Your support on Giving Tuesday will help Main Street Alliance inform, organize, and support small-business leaders who form the backbone of any community.
