CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (January 13, 2023) Goodwill of the Heartland will host a Grand Opening Celebration for its Davenport Career and Support Services facilities at NorthPark Mall on Thursday, January 26. The event is open to the public and includes facility tours, a community ribbon cutting and light refreshments.

Programs and services previously housed in Goodwill offices on 35th Street were relocated to NorthPark Mall in December. These include workforce services, Veterans Services, Day Habilitation and a multitude of employment and training services. In addition, the new location includes a Helms Career Center offering beginning, intermediate and advanced computer skills-training, cover letter and résumé writing, interview preparation, job-search assistance, and career-enhancement workshops. All services are free of charge to the community.

“We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with the Quad Cities, and excited about the added conveniences and new opportunities this relocation provides,” said President and CEO Pat Airy.

Moving to a location more accessible by public transit has been a goal for several years, noted Vice President of Mission Services Carmen Heck.

“Our new Career and Support Services at NorthPark Mall is not only more accessible for existing participants who rely on city busing but provides an opportunity for engagement with members of the community who may not be aware of all we offer,” Heck said. “A store-front location increases visibility of the great services we provide, which include digital skills-training, career planning, job placement, and industry-based credentials.”

Goodwill Day Habilitation participants also experience expanded community access.

“A key goal of Day Habilitation is to increase community and social integration,” said Program Director Shannon Jamison. “Being part of NorthPark Mall provides added opportunities for engagement and offers better access to public transit for a variety of community experiences and activities.”

Goodwill of the Heartland is a diverse organization, committed to helping people reach their full potential through education, training and the power of work. Our stores provide revenue to fuel our mission.
