CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (April 18, 2022) Technology-focused Goodwill Reboot as well as Goodwill of the Heartland’s E-Commerce Division have reached the culmination of a relocation plan officially announced in January 2021. Beginning today, both offerings, previously housed in two separate Iowa City locations, will interact with the public through facilities shared with the Cedar Rapids East Goodwill Store, located at 5520 Council Street NE.

Goodwill Reboot launched in May 2009 and had been located within the Iowa City Goodwill Store since the summer of 2014. A technology store within a Goodwill Store, Reboot refurbishes, recycles and sells computers and tech-gear received as donations throughout Goodwill of the Heartland’s nineteen-county territory in northeast Iowa and west-central Illinois. In 2021, Reboot responsibly recycled 229,971 pounds of computers as part of its partnership with Dell Reconnect.

The E-Commerce Division sells via an online auction site, ShopGoodwill.com, donated items with national appeal. Last year the division sold nearly 24,000 items. Most recently e-commerce operations were housed at Goodwill of the Heartland’s former headquarters on South 1st Avenue in Iowa City. While most items purchased online are shipped to new owners, Goodwill offers pick-up service to local shoppers who prefer to save on shipping costs. Beginning May 2, all merchandise pick-ups will take place at the Cedar Rapids East Store between the hours of 10AM and 4PM, Monday through Friday.

“We are very proud that 88 cents of every dollar spent in our stores or online auctions is reinvested in our communities,” said Vice President of Retail Operations Jason Toms. “In order to continue making that level of investment in our mission — job training, day habilitation services, veteran reintegration, supported community living, life- and job-skill development and more — we are constantly exploring ways to be more efficient and effective.”

CEO Pat Airy added, “Our retail operations exist to fuel our mission to help people reach their full potential through education, training, and the power of work. The facility consolidation we have undertaken as well as new ventures, like the Outlet Store, we opened in Cedar Rapids last summer help us stretch limited resources as far as possible, to help as many people as possible.”

Peripherals, cables, software, and tech-gear are available for purchase during Cedar Rapid East’s regular store hours — Monday through Saturday, 10AM-7PM, and Sunday, 11AM-5PM. Specially trained Reboot team members are available Monday through Friday, 10AM-4:30PM, to help shoppers select and purchase refurbished desktop and laptop computers.

Goodwill of the Heartland is a diverse organization. Our eighteen retail stores provide revenue to fund services for thousands of individuals who face barriers to independence.
