DES MOINES, IOWA (December 7, 2022) — Google has released its 12th annual Year in Search, reflecting on the top trending searches of the year, powered by Google Trends data (Iowa-specific trends included below).
With the release of 2022 trends, Google also launched a local hub that showcases interesting trends from all over the US. For example, the Anchorage, Alaska, and Des Moines, Iowa areas were the only two places in the US that had “quilt shops" in their top trending "near me" searches.
The way people search is also evolving beyond just typing into a search box. People are finding what they need in more natural ways, like humming a song, snapping a picture with Lens, or by asking Assistant “Hey Google” when they want to learn more. People most commonly used Lens to translate an image and shop a look. "Price," "vintage," and "near me" were among the top text searches in multisearch along with “what is this” or “how to fix.”
This year, change and curiosity were major themes across Google Search. The annual Year in Search trends show that in uncertain times, people are turning to Search to learn how to make changes.
