Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa today convened a meeting with several fellow senators from biofuels-producing states and Texas Gov. Rick Perry, President-elect Trump’s nominee to serve as secretary of the Department of Energy. The agency conducts research on fuel optimization that is relevant to biofuels policy-making. Grassley made the following comment after the meeting.

“I was looking for assurance that Governor Perry appreciates the role of biofuels in an all-of-the-above energy strategy to meet the country’s needs. I received that assurance and also the message that Governor Perry will carry out the direction of the incoming president, who has said he supports biofuels. This is the second major Trump nominee, the first being EPA administrator nominee Scott Pruitt, to express the sentiment that the executive branch will follow the rule of law and stay the course on biofuels. That message is important to continue the tremendous benefits of biofuels in job creation, economic investment, fuel independence and environmental benefits.”
