DAVENPORT, IOWA (July 14, 2021) — Three families will be breaking ground on their new homes this Saturday, July 17, 10AM, in Davenport. The families will celebrate together with a ceremony for their family, friends, volunteers, sponsors, and members of the public. This is the first three of five new homes Habitat for Humanity QC will be building this summer on E 6th St in Davenport (761, 765, and 769). With the five homes to be completed, Habitat will have built a total of eighteen homes in the neighborhood.
Habitat for Humanity partner-families purchase their home from Habitat for a zero-percent mortgage and manageable monthly payments. The Habitat homes in this neighborhood alone are estimated to generate $45,000 a year in property taxes for the City of Davenport.
In addition to purchasing their home, partner-families each must complete 250 volunteer hours of sweat equity for each adult in the home and attend homeownership classes working with a volunteer mentor. By the time the families are able to break ground this weekend, they will have to have at least 125 of their 250 hours completed.
The public and the media are welcome to attend this exciting ground-breaking ceremony as Habitat for Humanity and the City of Davenport recognize three more deserving families move one step closer in their dream of home-ownership.
Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities was founded in 1993 and have built more than 120 homes in our community. In addition to our new home construction, we offer home-repair and wheel-chair ramp programs for Scott and Rock Island Counties. We also facilitate a Neighborhood Revitalization program in Moline's Florciente Neighborhood.
The builds we will be celebrating this weekend would not be possible without the support of the City of Davenport, Scott County Housing Council, St Paul Lutheran Church, Scott County Regional Authority, Quad City Bank and Trust, Russell Construction, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and CNH Industrial.
