Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for 2018-2019 AmeriCorps State funding
Des Moines, Iowa – Volunteer Iowa is pleased to announce the availability of federal funding in the form of AmeriCorps State program grants.  AmeriCorps is a National Service program that helps meet community needs through the efforts of AmeriCorps members. The AmeriCorps State program offers different types of funding to meet the needs of various host agencies and communities.
In 2017, AmeriCorps members serving in Iowa tutor at risk youth and run after school programs; provide outreach and services to prevent child and substance abuse; build low-income housing and improve home energy efficiency; provide capacity-building services to increase the effectiveness of Iowa nonprofit organizations; restore habitats and build trails in Iowa parks; and assist refugees in accessing healthcare and securing jobs.  Potential applicants may do similar activities or use members to address other identified needs in their community.  Special priority is expected to be given in this competition to programs addressing child welfare and infrastructure needs.

About Volunteer Iowa (or Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service)
Volunteer Iowa and its partner agencies work with organizations and individuals on three main fronts. The first is to help agencies develop quality programs that use service as a strategy to fulfill their missions and address Iowa’s greatest areas of need. The second is to help engage Iowans in their communities by promoting service and expanding the volunteer base. Finally, the third area of work is to connect individuals with appropriate service opportunities by building the volunteer infrastructure. More information is available at volunteeriowa.org.
