DES MOINES, IOWA (May 16, 2024) — The Iowa Bicycle Coalition is hosting a fundraiser to support 80/35 BMX in their efforts to bring a year-round all-weather Olympic-level indoor BMX racetrack and off-road cycling facility to the Greater Des Moines metro area. Organizers hope to highlight Iowa’s large and inclusive cycling, mountain bike, and skate community in their effort to raise funds.

The fundraiser will be held at 5pm on Wednesday, May 22, at xBx Live at 1129 24th St, Des Moines. Tickets are on sale now at this link and range from $25 general admission to a variety of higher-sponsorship packages. The goal for this fundraising campaign is to raise $47,000 for a comprehensive feasibility study, and organizers have already raised over $20,000 towards that goal. Attendees will enjoy free pizza from Dough County, drinks, live music from Joshua Sinclair and The Sheet, and hear from guest speakers about progress on the BMX Skills Hub project, which is now the Community Action Sports Complex.

Skate DSM, one of the driving organizations behind the Skate Park, has joined forces with the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and 80/35 BMX to bring an all ages indoor community action sports complex to the Greater Des Moines region. Kittie Weston-Knauer, the oldest BMX racer in the United States and also an Iowan, will be the headliner speaker for the event. Doors open at 5PM, the program begins at 6:15PM, and the event will continue until 8PM. Bike Valet parking will be provided by The Street Collective and Bike World has donated two BMX bikes for raffle at the door.
