Events across the state promote the beauty and importance of architecture

DES MOINES, IOWA (April 9, 2019) —The American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter announced today the celebration of April as Iowa Architecture Month intended to exemplify the importance, beauty, and significance of architecture. Numerous statewide initiatives have been planned to celebrate this annual event, including the signing of a State Proclamation by Governor Kim Reynolds that will occur on April 9 at 3PM, architectural workshops, tours, films, lecture series, and the AIA Iowa People’s Choice Award.

Returning this year is the AIA Iowa People’s Choice Award designed to promote architecture and to encourage appreciation and interaction with buildings within the state. AIA Iowa invites the public to serve as the jury and to judge architecture built by Iowa architects throughout the month of April. Anyone can vote once per project per day at IowaArchitecture.org. Winners will be announced at the end of the month.

In addition to the People’s Choice Award, AIA Iowa has planned events that promote the exploration of Iowa’s architectural treasures. National Architecture week, April 21-27, is just one part of AIA Iowa’s month-long spotlight on the contributions architects make to our communities and society in general. The AIA Iowa 2019 Spring Conference theme is Thought Leaders: inspired by the unique position architects hold in the decision-making process this conference’s goal is to navigate how we, as architects, execute leadership skills to motivate the implementation of new ideas, be forward thinkers and apply new technologies to inform our built surroundings. To equip our attendees with the knowledge required to orchestrate meaningful conversations with the public by understanding how projects both the AIA Iowa Spring Conference brings architects and design professionals from across the state to Ames, IA for keynotes, workshops, and networking between students and professionals.
