DES MOINES, IOWA (May 11, 2026) — The Iowa Medical Society will join Governor Kim Reynolds on Wednesday, May 13, 10:30AM, at Monroe County Hospital and Clinics for the signing of House File 2635, landmark insurance reform legislation aimed at reducing barriers to patient care and strengthening protections for physicians and patients across Iowa.

The legislation includes major reforms to prior authorization practices, requiring that only qualified clinical peers may deny or modify prior authorization requests.

The bill also exempts certain cancer-related screenings and emergency medical conditions from prior authorization requirements and establishes new protections related to insurer-provider contracts and utilization review processes.

IMS physician leaders and staff will be available for interviews following the signing ceremony.
