DAVENPORT IA (January 25, 2019) — Hi everybody! What a day! This weather is so challenging, isn’t it? A little car trouble in this weather is just such an absolute nightmare.
I have a couple of items for you on this bitterly cold Friday afternoon. As a reminder, tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 is a City Council Work Session on the CIP budget. I understand that with our recent weather conditions, flexibility has been added in to the agenda, to include the Operating Budget should time permit. Here’s a link to the agenda.https://davenport.novusagenda.com/AgendaPublic/MeetingsResponsive.aspx?meetingType=4
Brandon Wright, CFO/Assistant City Administrator says several highlights of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget include; 1)Improved Council Prioritization of projects, 2) Continued trend of increased funding for street projects (Citizen survey Priority 1), and 3) $34 million for street and sewer projects in FY2020.
Brandon also tells me that the highlights from the FY 2020 Operating Budget include the following:
1) Complies with City Council policy for reserve and liquidity targets while maintaining the tax levy rate
2) Focuses on police services
a. Higher staffing of sworn officers (4 additional in FY 2019)
b. Increases minimum staffing levels for patrol shifts
c. Formation of new Gun Investigation Unit
3) Strong Tax Base Growth at 4.4 %.
The meeting gets underway at 8:30AM tomorrow in the Council Chambers.
Now, back to the weather. Here’s a link to the latest snow and ice event post from Public Works. Stay tuned for further updates as our weather unfolds in the coming days.
I hope you have an opportunity to enjoy all of the new exhibits opening this weekend at the Putnam and Figge. What a great way to enjoy this cold and snowy weekend in January.
Be safe everybody! I’ll talk to you soon.
