Nancy Santiago announces release ofBaby Henry and Me’

PLYMOUTH, Minn. – When Nancy Santiago gave birth to her second daughter, she says it was difficult to watch her older child struggle with jealousy and feeling displaced.  She had many friends experiencing the same thing as their little ones regressed in behavior, wanting to drink from a bottle or wear diapers again. The common parental response was: “You’re not a baby anymore! You’re a big girl/boy!”

In “Baby Henry and Me” (published by Xlibris), Santiago seeks to help children feel good about no longer being a baby in a humorous, whimsical way. Written for children who have a new baby coming into their home, the book follows a child's relationship and interactions with a new baby brother and her mother, describing the many advantages of no longer being a baby. Santiago states: “This book is written from a child's perspective, and even the illustrations show how a child sees things, so I believe it will entertain a child while making them feel understood.”

An excerpt from this book:

"Now Henry doesn't eat the way us grown up people do.

He drinks right from my mommy where some nice, warm milk comes through.

Then Mommy pats his back until a burp-bubble comes up.

I don't have to do that, 'cause I drink from a cup!"

The author believes that comfort, encouragement and increased confidence for both the mother and the older sibling are needed when a new baby is born.

“I think this book will appeal to readers because it addresses the concern a mother feels about how the older child is adjusting to the many changes that come with welcoming a new baby into the home. This book can be a tool, even when she is tired and busy, for her to communicate what is special about their being older in a positive, fun way.”

The Blue Ink Review describes the book: “Baby Henry and Me should prove entertaining for any young reader, but especially those with a sibling who has recently arrived or is on the way.”
