(Moline, Ill.) Living Proof Exhibit, which celebrates the creative spirit of cancer survivors, is teaming up with the Muscatine Art Center to display a juried exhibition and provide two free Creative Sessions to cancer patients, survivors, and families touched by cancer.

A small juried exhibition of works by cancer patients and survivors will be on view at the Art Center from September 28th through November 12th. All are invited to attend the exhibition reception on Sunday, October 1st from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Anyone touched by cancer can participate in a free studio project on Sunday, October 1st from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Trained instructor Megan Bishop and a Spanish-speaking assistant will guide participants in the creation of a faux stained glass project. A second Creative Session will be held on Thursday, October 19th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants decorate porcelain “sugar” skulls in celebration of “El Dia de Los Muertos” (Day of the Dead). All supplies will be provided. Both Creative Sessions are sponsored by Komen Greater Iowa.

“The sessions in October will serve as a pilot to what we hope will become a strong partnership,” explained Muscatine Art Center Director, Melanie Alexander. “We know there are many families coping with a cancer diagnosis in the Muscatine community, and we would like these families to benefit from a creative outlet.”

"Living Proof Exhibit offers numerous creative outlets for those impacted by cancer," said Executive Director, Pamela Crouch. “The juried exhibition and Creative Sessions at the Muscatine Art Center are important for increasing the quality of life of the cancer survivor in Muscatine."

During both classes, the instructor will guide participants in using art as one way to cope with a cancer diagnosis. Classes are open to patients, survivors, and their support team. To register, please call the Art Center at 563-263-8282 or email tstenstrup@muscatineiowa.gov. Please provide your name, mailing address, telephone number or email, and, for those under 18 years, your age.
