ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (February 6, 2020) — According to TIME Magazine, Chinese-American playwright David Henry Hwang, “has the potential to become the first important dramatist of American public life since Arthur Miller, and maybe the best of them all.”
Hwang has been described by the New York Times as "a true original" is best known as the author of M Butterfly. That enduring 1988 work, which won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, John Gassner Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award, was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
During a public lecture, Wednesday, February 12, Hwang will share his experiences as America’s most-produced living opera librettist and his other professional accolades, including Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards, and Golden Globe awards.
The lecture will be at 7:30PM at the Brunner Theatre Main Stage on the campus of Augustana College, Rock Island. A book-signing of Hwang’s works will follow. Copies will also be available for purchase.

The 2019-2020 Visiting Artist Series brings 14 artists and ensembles, including a hip-hop dance ensemble, an electronic-music producer, a Mexican folk-rock group, and string quartets, to visit the Quad Cities region from September 2019 through April 2020.
