WATERLOO, IOWA (July 7, 2026) — The annual Marching Against the Darkness Drill Team Competition returns to Young Arena in downtown Waterloo on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Doors open at 5PM and the show starts at 6PM.

The competition will bring together youth drill teams and performers from across the Midwest for an exciting night of dancing, stepping, marching, drumming, color guard, creative routines, and high-energy showmanship. Teams will compete for cash prizes, trophies, and bragging rights while showcasing the discipline, teamwork, confidence, and excellence developed through the performing arts.

“This isn’t just a show — it is a powerful display of youth talent, hard work, discipline, and excellence,” said Darvel Givens MA, Executive Director of Marching Against the Darkness.

“Every team that steps on the floor brings its own style, energy, and story. These young people work hard for this moment, and we want the community to come out, fill the arena, and celebrate them.”

The MATD Drill Team Competition has become one of Waterloo’s most exciting youth-centered performing-arts events, drawing performers, families, coaches, supporters, and spectators from Waterloo and surrounding states. The competition gives young people a platform to perform in front of a large audience while building confidence, leadership, teamwork, creativity, and pride.

Audience members can expect an electric atmosphere filled with high-impact performances, creative special effects, sharp formations, crowd engagement, and unforgettable routines. The event is designed for all ages and continues to highlight the importance of investing in youth, the arts, and positive community experiences.

Admission is $10 online presale and $17 at the door for ages five and up. Children four and under are free.

Online presale tickets are available until Friday, July 10, at 11:59PM. Tickets and event details are available at matd.org.

Sponsorship, advertising, vendor, and volunteer opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Darvel Givens, Executive Director, at director@matd.org or (319) 504-2309, or visit matd.org.
