Rock Island, Ill.  –

Local artists will present a check for $1,700 to Quad City Arts’ Metro Youth Apprenticeship Program at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Quad City Arts’ Rock Island Gallery, 1715, 2nd Ave., Rock Island.  This donation comes from the proceeds of the recent sale of Dean Timmermann’s drawings.

Attending artists include Paul Lange, Kristen Quinn, Jason Franks, and Brad Bisbey.

Dean Timmermann’s works, charcoal and pencil life drawings, each sold for $20 and up. Sale organizers wanted the proceeds to benefit kids, so they looked at local programs that serve youth.

The Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program employs high school and college students in paid arts apprenticeships for five weeks. Apprentices were selected through an application and interview process. Participants work on group projects under the supervision of a professional artist and receive a stipend for their work.

Thirty-seven Metro Arts apprentices worked for the 2017 Quad City Arts Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program on four community arts projects.

Donations to Quad City Arts are currently eligible to be matched dollar for dollar, which also drew the organizers’ attention.
