Winnie’s Place, the only emergency shelter for women and children in the Illinois Quad Cities, gratefully accepts a generous $2,500 grant award from Modern Woodmen of America.

Funds will help build a retaining wall at the shelter, a ministry of Churches United of the Quad City Area. Winnie’s Place is much more than a temporary shelter for women with or without children who are homeless and/or survivors of domestic violence. Comprehensive support services provided by professional staff include assistance with budgeting, parenting, self-care and self-respect.

In its 56th year, Churches United has a history of reaching out to our community. Our 137 member churches represent over 50,000 people from the Quad City Area.

Help Keep the Reader Alive and Free Since '93!

"We're the River Cities' Reader, and we've kept the Quad Cities' only independently owned newspaper alive and free since 1993.

So please help the Reader keep going with your one-time, monthly, or annual support. With your financial support the Reader can continue providing uncensored, non-scripted, and independent journalism alongside the Quad Cities' area's most comprehensive cultural coverage." - Todd McGreevy, Publisher
