NEWTON, IOWA (February 4, 2019) — Race fans rejoice! NASCAR has announced an innovative, compelling Triple Truck Challenge and Iowa Speedway will prove pivotal in determining the Triple Truck Challenge Champion with an opportunity at $500,000 for eligible drivers.
The Triple Truck Challenge, or The Trip, is open to any driver who has elected to race for NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship driver points. The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Iowa 200, on June 15, will be the second of three shootout-style races on consecutive yet varying track configurations (Texas Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Gateway Motorsports Park).
"This new format is tailor-made for Iowa Speedway and it is sure to add a new level of intrigue to Wide Opening Weekend," said Iowa Speedway President David Hyatt. “As the pivotal race in The Trip, our fans are going to see some of the best racing the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series has to offer.
“Whoever wins at Texas will have to win at our place in order to qualify for the big money. I guarantee every driver will be do their best to prevent that from happening so they can get a piece of that pie. This may shape up to be the most competitive truck race ever at Iowa Speedway.”
The Trip will showcase a mix of savvy veterans and young up-and-coming drivers aspiring to prove their mettle in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. The Iowa 200 – like winning The Preakness in horse racing – is a must-win for a driver to be crowned the Triple Truck Challenge Champion and to qualify for a shot at $500,000 at Gateway Motorsports Park in June.
The winner of each of the three races will receive an extra $50,000 which is a substantial bonus for a full-time NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver. If the winner at Texas Motor Speedway follows that up with a trip to Casey’s General Store’s Victory Lane at Iowa Speedway; he / she will win a $100,000 bonus and becomes the only driver qualified for the $500,000 payout.
The Triple Truck Challenge is open to any driver who has elected to race for NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series championship driver points. Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers are ineligible.
Iowa Speedway is committed to maximizing the value of the investment made by fans and is offering 2019 tickets at the same low prices seen in 2018. For the third consecutive year, ticket prices have remained the same; Single-race tickets start at just $20 and event weekend ticket packages, offering as much as a 10 percent discount, begin at $32.
