DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 9, 2026) — Thrivent Financial Advisors Thomas Brooke and Lillie Huhndorf will host an educational workshop focused on helping families navigate the complex financial and support decisions involved in planning for individuals with special needs.

The session will be led by Hannah Magrum, Chartered Special Needs Consultant® and Thrivent Financial Advisor, who specializes exclusively in special-needs planning. Magrum is emerging as a national voice in this space and has recently been sought out for her expertise by major outlets including Newsweek and Investopedia.

Bringing both professional experience and personal insight as a parent of a child with special needs and an ambulatory wheelchair user, Magrum focuses on helping families understand how financial decisions can directly impact access to critical benefits and long-term support.

“Many families don’t realize how interconnected financial planning and public benefits are,” said Magrum. “Even well-intentioned decisions can have unintended consequences if they’re not made with the full picture in mind.”

The workshop is designed to provide practical, easy-to-understand guidance around topics such as:

  • Medicaid and Medicare considerations
  • Special needs trusts and ABLE accounts
  • Planning for long-term care and independence
  • Available state, local, and federal resources
  • The role of financial planning in protecting benefits
  • Education planning considerations (IEP vs. 504 plans)
  • Tax considerations related to special needs planning

This event is educational in nature, and no products will be sold. It is intended for families, caregivers, educators, and community members seeking clarity around the often-overlooked complexities of special needs planning.
