LeCLAIRE, IOWA (October 17, 2023) — The LeClaire Community Library invites the community to a special presentation. On Tuesday, November 7, 6PM, the Figge Museum will join the regular Hands-on Art History program to present “Native American and Western Art.”

Every month at Hands-on Art History the library explores different artists or art movements and applies it with a fun craft for all ages. This month for Hands-On Art History, we’ve invited the Figge Art Museum to give a talk and share a craft on Indian Ledger Art and other Native American Art.

Ledger art is a term for narrative drawing or painting on paper or cloth, which flourished primarily from the 1860s to the 1920s, and which especially used paper from accounting ledgers.

This event is recommended for ages eight and up.

The library is proud to offer hands-on learning experiences, especially in honor of Native American Heritage month, officially observed in November since 1990.
