Press Release

Java Station Espresso Café features Project Linus Quilters at the East Village Christmas Walk

New Owners invite East Village Christmas Walk visitors to enjoy a cup of hot cider and learn more about volunteer “blanketeers”

ImageDavenport, IA, November 18, 2006:  With new owners and a new look, the Java Station Espresso Café in the Village of East Davenport is eager to welcome visitors to the annual East Village Christmas Walk with hot cider, an outdoor firepit, and a quilting demonstration by Jean Hess and Quad Cities/East Central Chapter Coordinator of Project Linus, Karen Brix. After purchasing the Café in September, Pam and Vic Crome wanted to be active participants in the Village of East Davenport Association. As manager of the Café, Pam has already enjoyed being a part of Riverssance weekend, Customer Appreciation Days, and now looks forward to the holidays in the Village. She said, “We had talked about owning a coffee shop for a long time and we have always enjoyed the East Village, so when we learned that the Java Station Café in the East Village was available – we couldn’t resist the opportunity.” And after working in the nonprofit sector for 25 years, Pam said, “I am so happy that the Christmas Walk allows us to feature a wonderful nonprofit organization, Project Linus. Serving others and seeing them smile, whether in the nonprofit or business sector, is most rewarding for me.”  Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission: to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers” and to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children. Literature will be available and visitors will have the opportunity to make a donation to the local chapter.
