
DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 3, 2026) — The Putnam Museum and Science Center is pleased to introduce an extraordinary international travel opportunity for 2027: “Travel to Japan with the Putnam Museum.”
Scheduled for June 17–29, 2027, this immersive thirteen-day journey invites guests to discover the rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes of Japan.
Participants will travel through some of the country’s most iconic destinations, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and Hiroshima. Along the way, participants will explore a thoughtfully-curated mix of historic landmarks, cultural sites, and natural beauty. Highlights include Tokyo’s Senso-ji Temple and the Imperial Palace gardens, the historic Inuyama Castle, and Kyoto’s renowned Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion).
Guests will also experience the peaceful beauty of the Bamboo Forest, visit Sanjusangen-do and Kurama-dera temples, and walk beneath the famous torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha.
The itinerary continues with a visit to Nara Park, home to its iconic free-roaming deer, and the breathtaking Itsukushima Shrine, before concluding with the grandeur of Osaka Castle and its surrounding gardens. Each stop is designed to showcase the deep cultural heritage and modern energy that make Japan a truly unforgettable destination.

In addition to sightseeing, the tour offers a range of cultural experiences that bring Japan’s traditions to life.
Travelers will enjoy a Geisha performance, take part in a traditional tea ceremony, and experience a sumo-themed dinner. The journey also includes a sake tasting, a hands-on calligraphy lesson, and opportunities to explore local markets and shopping districts.
The cost of the trip is $8,985 per person based on double occupancy, with a $1,000 deposit required to reserve a spot. A single supplement is available for an additional $3,565. International airfare and travel insurance are not included.
