Due to unforeseen circumstances Grandmaster Simon Kim Williams is unable to attend this weekend, so the Quad Cities Chess Festival has decided to postpone the event until a future date.

Quad Cities Chess Festival Features Grandmaster Simon Kim Williams

Quad Cities – Bob Long, a two-time Quad Cities Chess Champion, hosts the 2017 Quad Cities Chess Festival at the Ramada, 3020 Utica Ridge Road in Bettendorf on August 18-20, 2017

Grandmaster Simon Kim Williams from England is the featured guest.  Mr. Williams became a Grandmaster in 2008, founded a chess media publishing company and has 20,000 YouTube followers.  He provided official commentary at the Gibraltar Chess Festival in 2017.

Backed by more than 50 years of experience in the business of chess, U.S. Chess Federation (USCF) rated expert Bob Long welcomes attendees for an event of fun and learning.  This event is not a tournament; it’s a fun event without the stress or the competition.  Everyone who registers will get the FREE book, Simon Williams' Shock & Awe Playbook!

Registration is $150 for the three-day festival.  Contact Bob Long at 563-271-6657.  A special hotel room rate may still be available at the Ramada Bettendorf starting at $79.95.  Please ask for the Chess Festival rate.

In addition to the activities the Chess Festival will offer over the weekend, The Simultaneous Exhibition takes place at 12 Noon on Sunday, August 20.  Try your hand at beating Grandmaster Simon Kim Williams.  Be forewarned, he’s one of the most hilarious grandmasters in Chess.  Take a seat on Sunday at one of the boards, and Grandmaster Williams will travel around the U-shaped set up playing all who have registered to participate in the Simultaneous Exhibition for $25.  One move is made at a time.

History of the Quad Cities Chess Festival

This is the 12th chess event in the Quad-Cities since 1998.  The Quad Cities has hosted several prominent chess events over the years, and the Chess Festival promises to deliver another great event.  The Quad Cities Chess Events are known for having the History Makers, such as: GM Kavalek who has written for the Huffington Post and being a second to world champion Bobby Fischer; GM Gufeld who was worldwide famous for his Mona Lisa of Chess (La Giaconda).  After that came GM Rowson who topped off his appearance here by winning the World Open, the British Championship, and the Scottish Championship in short order.  In 2004 we had GM Yermolinsky (several times US Champion and champion story-teller).  The next tier of chess personalities included Ken Whyld one of the world’s leading chess historians.  International Master Andrew Martin has made many trips to the U.S. via the Quad-Cities and the crowds have loved him too.
