PORT BYRON, IL - The Nick Teddy Foundation is teaming up with the Quad City Mallards on Friday, March 24, at the iWireless Center, with puck drop at 7:05 PM. The Mallards will battle the
Fort Wayne Komets.

The foundation’s namesake, Port Byron native Nick Strub, was a hockey player with the Quad Cities Ice Eagles from 1996-1999. He died of Ewing’s sarcoma in 2011 at age 29.

Tickets are available for $15 using the promo code NTF. The Mallards organization will donate $5 of every ticket (sold with the promo code) to the Nick Teddy Foundation, to help in its work to
defeat Ewing’s sarcoma.

Tickets can be bought online at http://ticketmaster.com, by email at rcassatt@myqcmallards.net, or over the phone at 309-277-1392.

Nick Teddy t-shirts will be thrown at intermissions. Bring one to the Nick Teddy table on the concourse for a free gift card! There will be Mallards memorabilia for sale, and a raffle for a free registration for this year’s Nick Teddy 5k on September 9, 2017. All proceeds benefit Ewing’s sarcoma research, and QCA families affected by the disease.

Ewing’s sarcoma is a pediatric bone cancer. Caught early, 5-year survival rates are over 70%. However, widespread or recurrent disease has no proven treatment, and survival drops to less than 30%. The disease currently affects several QC area children and adults.

Diagnosis can be delayed, because it often initially resembles a sports injury. Treatment can involve up to a year of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, and is associated with many serious side effects and lingering health issues.
