Davenport, Iowa – The Quad City Federation of Labor, AFLCIO, has announced endorsements for the upcoming School Board Elections on September 12, 2017:

Davenport School Board:

Allison Beck- (AFT 1836)

Elliott Grier- (ISEA HH)

Rodney Blackwell- (CWA 7110)

Bettendorf School Board:

Richard Lynch

We encourage union members and all voters to get out to vote for all these excellent candidates.

Allison Beck is a paleontologist with incredible credentials, currently employed at Black Hawk College where she serves on the faculty senate. We value her approach as a scientist and her expertise as a trained paleontologist will be beneficial to programs like STEM. She vows to stand up for working families throughout all of Davenport.

Rodney Blackwell is Vice-President of CWA 7110 and is a member of the Progressive Baptist Church. Rodney’s platform includes supporting the industrial arts and ensuring students are college and career ready when they graduate. Rodney advocates for all students to be prepared to succeed when they graduate, whether the student is attending a University, a community college, the military, or an apprentice in the building trades. We owe it to our children to give them the skillset to succeed.

Elliott Grier is a project engineer, by trade, and lives in an ISEA house hold. He comes from a long-line of family members throughout organized labor. Elliott is striving to increase access and enrollment to early childhood education throughout Davenport. He believes every child should be treated fairly and have opportunities to succeed, no matter their background.

Richard Lynch is a professor of philosophy at St. Ambrose University. While Bettendorf is going through many changes, including the hiring of a new superintendent, we feel Richard’s thoughtful answers reflect his background as a higher education philosophy professor. He understands the importance of collective bargaining rights to create a stable learning environment for our children. Richard will bring a calm and considerate voice to the Bettendorf School Board.
