DES MOINES, IOWA (September 21, 2023) — On Tuesday, September 19, Representative Mike Vondran (R-Davenport) was appointed to the newly-created interim study committee on Iowa Law Enforcement Academy requirements.

This committee, created during the 2023 Legislative session, is required to examine all current policy matters regarding Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and submit a report to the Governor and the General Assembly. The committee will review the academy’s entrance requirements, attendance requirements, courses of study, equipment and facility sufficiency, and more.

“Iowans have been loud and clear that they want representatives that support our Iowa Law Enforcement,” said Rep Vondran. “Keeping our communities safe is a top priority. A large part of that is making sure our law-enforcement officers are getting the best training. We owe it to all Iowans to ensure policies at our Law Enforcement Academy are effective and stay up to date. I look forward to serving on this interim committee and getting the chance to dig deeper into this important issue.”

Rep Vondran is currently serving his first term in the Iowa House. He represents House District 94, which includes the cities of Davenport, Bettendorf, Eldridge, and portions of rural Scott County. Vondran serves as Vice-Chair on the Public Safety committee as well as on the Agriculture and Commerce committees. He also serves on the Justice Systems Budget subcommittee.
