MoonShare is a nationwide giveback program from Sugarlands Distilling Co.
DAVENPORT, 1/9/17 - The River Music Experience is currently in the running for a $5,000 grant from MoonShare, the nationwide giveback program from Sugarlands Distilling Co.
RME is one of 50 nonprofits around the country, and the only organization from Iowa, selected for the final round of voting for MoonShare 2017 grants. The 12 nonprofits with the most votes receive a grant, and RME is currently one of them.
MoonShare helps nonprofit organizations nationwide positively influence their communities by providing grants, fundraisers and donations. This was the last grant request that the late Ellis Kell wrote on behalf of RME.
"RME is honored to be part of this nationwide competition, and is in excellent company," Deb Powers, CEO of RME, said. "Ellis would love to see the community rally around RME to win this."
Former winners include Active Heroes, a charity that fights against veteran suicide, and Camp Sunshine, a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
In years past, RME missed the top 12 by one vote.
"We were so close, it really stung to miss out by one vote" Bret Dale, RME's Director of Programming and Education, said. "That money could repair all of our instruments we loan to kids that can't afford them, and so much more."
Anyone can vote once a day per device through all of January of 2017 at moonshare.org/vote.
"Please, vote once on a day on your phone, laptop, work computer, everywhere," Dale said. "It would help RME and music education in our community so much."
