Sales benefit Child Abuse Council during Child Abuse Awareness Month
Throughout April, Child Abuse Awareness Month, several businesses in downtown Rock Island are donating a portion of proceeds to benefit Child Abuse Council. Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal financial services organization based in Rock Island, will match these donations, up to $1,000.
The participating businesses are:
· Icons: Donated 10 percent of drink sales on April 6.
· Steve’s Old Time Tap: Donating 50 percent of appetizer sales, April 9-13 and April 16-20.
· Healthy Harvest Urban Farms: Donating 10 percent of café and grocery sales, April 16-20.
The initiative was coordinated by Modern Woodmen employees to support their 2018 employee service project, Power Their Potential. The project is focused on giving kids in the Quad Cities the building blocks for brighter futures.
In addition to arranging the business donation, Modern Woodmen employees also planted a blue pinwheel garden for Child Abuse Council’s Blue-Out Day and raised money for the Council through denim day, bake sale and raffle fundraisers.
