DAVENPORT, IOWA (December 16, 2021) — Santa Claus and the holiday season are coming a little early for some children in our community this year…

In collaboration with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, more than 25 children will receive newly-refurbished bicycles and bicycle helmets. A special presentation of the bicycles will be held Monday, December 20, 2021, 4PM, in the Friendly House parking lot, 1221 Myrtle Street, Davenport.

The children have already been selected and notified of their awaiting bicycle and helmet.

The Scott County Jail implemented a jail-inmate program to restore used bicycles in 2005. Bicycles restored are from donations from private and enforcement agencies. The program is to instruct inmates in restoration techniques, cleaning, and providing a needed public service back to the community. This is the fourteenth year that Friendly House has partnered with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department on this project.
