- Saturday, September 9, FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Robotics Kickoff hosted at John Deere's Worldwide Headquarters from 8:30 AM - Noon. The new challenge for the season will be unveiled along with breakout sessions to sharing knowledge and network. Illinois and Iowa FTC teams (students, coaches and mentors) are invited to the FREE event. The Quad Cities 2017 World Champs, the Combustible Lemons will be sharing their amazing experiences. - Saturday, September 23, 5th Annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Season Kickoff from 8:30 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the Putnam Museum & Science Center. Quad City area FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams from Iowa & Illinois including students, coaches and mentors are cordially invited to attend the Annual FLL season Kickoff free of charge. The Kickoff is a fun way to meet other teams, learn and share FLL information including opportunities to talk with animal experts, FLL judges and referees. Several teams who previously won awards and participated at State Championships and World Championships will be on hand to share their experiences. We are seeking several volunteers with no previous experience required. Further information with links to pre-register teams and volunteers.
- Grant Applications for FIRST Robotic Teams - Know a school (K-12) or non-profit looking for a great way to provide their students, hands-on, fun learning? Grants for new and returning FIRST teams are available to schools and non-profits through the John Deere Inspire program. The current deadlines to apply by program:
- FIRST LEGO League (age 9-14) - Deadline is September 8
- FIRST Tech Challenge (age 12-18) - Deadline is Sept. 29
- FIRST Robotics Competition (age 14-18) - Deadline is November 10
- FIRST LEGO League (age 6-10) Junior is March 2, 2018
